Warchild By Emmanuel Jal
"Warchild" tells the extarordinary story of Emmanuel Jal, former Sudanese child soldier now turned hip hop star who is set to make his mark on the world with his powerful words spreading the message of what he has been through, and what many are still living with now.
The inspirations for the 13 songs on "Warchild" are rooted in Jal's impossible past. In "Forced to Sin," Jal recounts, "I lived with an AK-47/By my side/Slept with one eye open wide/Run/Duck/Play dead." His love and loyalty for his homeland of Sudan shines in "Stronger" - "I pledge allegiance/To My Motherland/That I'll do everything possible/To make a stand/Yes I can." Jal pleads with rapper 50 Cent on "50 Cent" to be a better role model for his young fans: "You have done enough damage selling crack cocaine/now you got a kill a black man video game/We have lost a whole generation through this lifestyle/now you want to put it in the game for a little child to play..." From the CD's title track, "I'm a war child/I believe I've survived for a reason/to tell my story/to touch lives." And, "Emma," the album's closer, is a heartbreaking tribute to Emma McCune, the "angel" who rescued Emmanuel.
Hear Emmanuel Jal's story, and be truly touched by this wonderful tale of hope.

JOYA
By Funky C MAY/15/2007
SOMCD004
|
Joya By Funky C
Born at the twilight of the 70s during the Pinochet dictatorship, Funky C began his musical career at 14, when he shared the stage with his father Hugo Moraga, one of the most prolific singer/songwriters in Chile. At 16 he established the band Los Tetas, changing the way funk was portrayed in Latin America . It was a breath of fresh air for Chileans by offering an alternative to the aggressive punk scene of the time which exploded as a direct response to Pinochet’s oppressive regime. It established him as one of the most respected Latin funk performers of his generation, with radio hits from Chile to Mexico.
Led by Sonic360 (The label that brought you Kinky) , 2007 is slated to become the year where Funky C brings his funk to the US with “Joya,” an album that fuses old school funk with today’s technology and sounds. The album features a handful of elite guest musicians from Dante Spinetta and Hugo Moraga to Juan Sativo (Tiro de Gracia) and Julio Briceño from Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles. A timeless jewel, filled with Latin funk/dance, soul and hip-hop.

For Her By Brian Buckley
Intimate moments abound on 'For Her', the debut album from Brian Buckley, among them the soulful ballad, “Ready for This Love;” the delicate acoustic introspection of “This Life of a Dreamer;” and the naked vocal power of “In Another World (She is Gone).” Elsewhere, Latin hand percussion and Colaiuta’s intricate hi-hat work set up a little Santana jam-out bliss on “Little Pieces” and “Spanish Tragedy”.
From soft confessions to soaring vocal vamps and magical musicality on 'For Her' coupled with the purity and innovation of his live performances, leaves no doubt that Brian Buckley is developing into a bonafide artist.

Mockery By Littl Shyning Man
Mockery is the debut album from Littl Shyning Man, a project from London based musician Christopher Haworth. Taking the name Littl Shyning Man from the book “Riddley Walker” by Russell Hoban, a story set in post-doomsday England, Haworth has created in Mockery, the perfect soundtrack to this apocalyptic tale. Haunting, at times unsettling, suffused with melancholy and wonder, Mockery is a stunning and beautifully composed masterpiece. Your unready ears will be blessed with anything from woodsy folk to abrasive noise, melodic electronica to number crunching digital scree, glacial drone to synthesiser wig-outs, 8-part vocal harmony to searing guitar feedack, slap bass to spoken word, bird song to robot song, none of this to all of this, all at once and none of the time. It's like "sleepwalking through the woods.. with a better drummer" according to flux magazine and they can't be wrong so check out new album Mockery available now on Head+Arm/Sonic360.

Hark! the Herald By Hana Miya
'Hark! The Herald' is Hana Miya's contemporary take on the classic carol. This haunting rendition marries Hana's inimitable vocals with her gentle piano accompaniment to create this peculiarly touching track. Exploring the sentiments of the original carol, this melancholic version delivers a traditional message to our increasingly destructive world.
"Hark The Herald is my personal response to the devastating carnage around the world…It is my plea for people to spend 3 minutes 41 seconds listening to the old lyrics of this carol and to contemplate 'Peace on Earth'... 'God and Sinners reconciled'" Hana Miya
An astounding interpretation of the original carol, Hana's 'Hark! The Herald' is an extraordinarily beautiful Christmas song.

Amor De Computadora By Tammy
TAMMY’s magical AMOR DE COMPUTADORA is a confident, but reserved E.P. of electroclash wizardry, previously released by Independiente in 2000 and which became a classic in the electro scene in Buenos Aires. TAMMY conjures up a new signature sound, by injecting musicality and pop sensibility into the aloof minimalist genre. Immersed in a childish but taciturn universe, TAMMY compels listeners to surrender without escape to his subliminal and hypnotic melodies. In AMOR DE COMPUTADORA, TAMMY has birthed an album of childish wisdom. Charmingly nostalgic and youthful, the E.P. flirts with deeper philosophy through splintered rhythms and darker beats. Having worked with DJ Hell (Gigolo) among others, Tammy's is now working with fellow argentinian 'Gurtz'.

Panameña By Gladkazuka
PANAMEÑA is the debut solo effort from Colombian musician GLADKAZUKA. With blunt guitars, thumping drum machines and choppy synth textures, this is retro electronica at its best. Keeping a slick eighties edge, GLADKAZUKA takes the smuttiest edge of dirty disco and mixes with the simplest of infectious rhythms. This is delicious new wave electro-pop fused with all the additives and e-numbers of the best dance music. With hollowed out tinny beats, muddy bass and rolling gun shots of pure house magic, PANAMEÑA undeniably romanticises an era of the past, while paving the way for a new age in synth music.

'GRANUFUNK'is an album of magnetic originality; a true case of opposites attracting. The minimalist, oft haunting calmness underlying each song is masterfully juxtaposed against the agitated rhythms and glitchy beats inherent in each track. While the seamless continuity lies in its stargazing melancholia and curious wisdom, 'GRANUFUNK' surprises at every opportunity, utilising discordant grinding beats, whispering bi-lingual lyrics (by guest vocalist Sonni Plankton), delicate programming, booming basslines, and spine-tingling melodies. Throughout, GRANUFUNK creates a unique ambience through a mixture of harsh scarred urban brokenbeat and earthy jazz. 'GRANUFUNK' is an album of rich, poignant material, with a potent lingering after effect.

Relying heavily on the sexy Mexican Spanish murmurings of Kinky lead singer Gil Cerezo, Capri succeeds in pulling a totally Class-A dancefloor electro deep house killer. Pass the tequila. To finish off the compilation, we salute ambient-breaks masters Pea Green Boat (Rory Natkiel and Mits Kayaba) from Leeds with their sublime track Citric. You may now unfasten your seatbelts.
