MOTHER'S DAY (DIGITAL SINGLE)

By Brian Buckley Band
JUN/29/2009

Mother's Day (Digital Single) By Brian Buckley Band

'Mother's Day' digital single is out 29th June 09, taken from Brian Buckley Band’s forthcoming sophomore album ‘Without Injuring Eternity’

The LA-based 'Brian Buckley Band' is back with a new single called 'Mother’s Day', their first release of new material since debut album 'For Her' which featured Frank Zappa musicians Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) and Arthur Barrow (bass, piano, organ) who also engineered and produced the record.

'Without Injuring Eternity' is a deeper and richer exploration into their sound with producer Mark Howard (U2, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits) at the helm. Using the unique and creative environment of the Mack Sennett Sound Stage, Howard pushed the band to the limit of inventiveness to create new, interesting and distinctive sounds, strong melodies and hooks, bizarre drum grooves, unusual song arrangements - sometimes making the band play in ways they had not played before in order to produce their best performances.

At the fore-front is Brian Buckley’s beautiful and emotional vocal, alternating between his effortless and powerful falcetto and his natural register to create a magical and mysterious blend. Telling the story of his life experiences, each song is a unique world in itself, connected by the thread of Brian’s vocals. 'Without Injuring Eternity' is a heart-felt and emotional record of a kind that is sorely missing these days. Brought to you by record label Sonic360, home to Walter Becker, Kinky, Emmanuel Jal.

DOWNTOWN CANON (DIGITAL SINGLE)

By Walter Becker
JUN/15/2009

SNC360DS21

Downtown Canon (Digital Single) By Walter Becker

When Walter was a kid, he used to work summers at his father’s office on Canal Street. They made a lot of deliveries to Soho, where artists were just beginning to move into lofts. Later, in college, when he'd meet someone with a loft he’d think to himself, ‘Just wait until I get one of those.’ 'Downtown Canon' is a beautiful, lilting Steely Dan-esque song reminiscing a dream-romance set in a downtown loft. One of the highlights from the 'Circus Money' album, 'Downtown Canon' is out digitally on 15th June 2009.

EMMA - SINGLE

By Emmanuel Jal
JUL/22/2008

SNCDS013

Emma - Single By Emmanuel Jal

"Emma McCune was my angel. She saved my life, and gave me the opportunity to be the person I am today." - Emmanuel Jal

Taken from the highly anticipated and world wide acclaimed Warchild album; Emma is a dedication to the British Aid worker Emma McCune that rescued Emmanuel Jal from a continued existence as a child soldier. Emma adopted Emmanuel and smuggled him to Kenya to begin a new life, where he could grow up safer and get an education. Sadly, a few months later Emma died in a car crash.

Haunting, beautiful and heartfelt; this song is for her, for without Emma, Emmanuel Jal would not be here to spread his word today.

"If Emma never rescued me I’d be a corpse from the African plain. What would I be if Emma never rescued me?" - Emma, Emmanuel Jal

Emmanuel Jal performed at Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday concert in June where he played an Emma live with the Soweto Gospel Choir to an ecstatic audience at Hyde Park.

CIRCUS MONEY

By Walter Becker
JUL/14/2008

SONIC360CD19

Circus Money By Walter Becker

In 1994, Walter Becker’s solo debut 11 Tracks of Whack established that he had more to say – and more ways to say it – than could be contained in the epochal oeuvre of Steely Dan.

Circus Money marks Becker's long-awaited return to stand-alone status. Aiding and abetting Becker is Grammy-winning producer and co-writer Larry Klein (Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters), plus Steely Dan musicians; drummer Keith Carlock, guitarist Jon Herington, saxophonist Chris Potter, and keyboardists Ted Baker and Jim Beard.

For all its talented complement, listening to Circus Money produces an unquestionably Beckeresque experience. Singular, sublime, and just a little warped; there can be no imagining this music as coming from anyone else.

WARCHILD

By Emmanuel Jal

SONIC360CD17

Warchild By Emmanuel Jal

"Warchild" tells the extarordinary story of Emmanuel Jal, former Sudanese child soldier now turned hip hop star who is set to make his mark on the world with his powerful words spreading the message of what he has been through, and what many are still living with now.
The inspirations for the 13 songs on "Warchild" are rooted in Jal's impossible past. In "Forced to Sin," Jal recounts, "I lived with an AK-47/By my side/Slept with one eye open wide/Run/Duck/Play dead." His love and loyalty for his homeland of Sudan shines in "Stronger" - "I pledge allegiance/To My Motherland/That I'll do everything possible/To make a stand/Yes I can." Jal pleads with rapper 50 Cent on "50 Cent" to be a better role model for his young fans: "You have done enough damage selling crack cocaine/now you got a kill a black man video game/We have lost a whole generation through this lifestyle/now you want to put it in the game for a little child to play..." From the CD's title track, "I'm a war child/I believe I've survived for a reason/to tell my story/to touch lives." And, "Emma," the album's closer, is a heartbreaking tribute to Emma McCune, the "angel" who rescued Emmanuel.
Hear Emmanuel Jal's story, and be truly touched by this wonderful tale of hope.

JOYA

By Funky C
MAY/15/2007

SOMCD004

Joya By Funky C

Born at the twilight of the 70s during the Pinochet dictatorship, Funky C began his musical career at 14, when he shared the stage with his father Hugo Moraga, one of the most prolific singer/songwriters in Chile. At 16 he established the band Los Tetas, changing the way funk was portrayed in Latin America . It was a breath of fresh air for Chileans by offering an alternative to the aggressive punk scene of the time which exploded as a direct response to Pinochet’s oppressive regime. It established him as one of the most respected Latin funk performers of his generation, with radio hits from Chile to Mexico.

Led by Sonic360 (The label that brought you Kinky) , 2007 is slated to become the year where Funky C brings his funk to the US with “Joya,” an album that fuses old school funk with today’s technology and sounds. The album features a handful of elite guest musicians from Dante Spinetta and Hugo Moraga to Juan Sativo (Tiro de Gracia) and Julio Briceño from Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles. A timeless jewel, filled with Latin funk/dance, soul and hip-hop.

For Her By Brian Buckley Band

Intimate moments abound on 'For Her', the debut album from Brian Buckley, among them the soulful ballad, “Ready for This Love;” the delicate acoustic introspection of “This Life of a Dreamer;” and the naked vocal power of “In Another World (She is Gone).” Elsewhere, Latin hand percussion and Colaiuta’s intricate hi-hat work set up a little Santana jam-out bliss on “Little Pieces” and “Spanish Tragedy”.

From soft confessions to soaring vocal vamps and magical musicality on 'For Her' coupled with the purity and innovation of his live performances, leaves no doubt that Brian Buckley is developing into a bonafide artist.

Mockery is the debut album from Littl Shyning Man, a project from London based musician Christopher Haworth. Taking the name Littl Shyning Man from the book “Riddley Walker” by Russell Hoban, a story set in post-doomsday England, Haworth has created in Mockery, the perfect soundtrack to this apocalyptic tale. Haunting, at times unsettling, suffused with melancholy and wonder, Mockery is a stunning and beautifully composed masterpiece. Your unready ears will be blessed with anything from woodsy folk to abrasive noise, melodic electronica to number crunching digital scree, glacial drone to synthesiser wig-outs, 8-part vocal harmony to searing guitar feedack, slap bass to spoken word, bird song to robot song, none of this to all of this, all at once and none of the time. It's like "sleepwalking through the woods.. with a better drummer" according to flux magazine and they can't be wrong so check out new album Mockery available now on Head+Arm/Sonic360.

'Hark! The Herald' is Hana Miya's contemporary take on the classic carol. This haunting rendition marries Hana's inimitable vocals with her gentle piano accompaniment to create this peculiarly touching track. Exploring the sentiments of the original carol, this melancholic version delivers a traditional message to our increasingly destructive world.

"Hark The Herald is my personal response to the devastating carnage around the world…It is my plea for people to spend 3 minutes 41 seconds listening to the old lyrics of this carol and to contemplate 'Peace on Earth'... 'God and Sinners reconciled'" Hana Miya

An astounding interpretation of the original carol, Hana's 'Hark! The Herald' is an extraordinarily beautiful Christmas song.

Amor De Computadora By Tammy

TAMMY’s magical AMOR DE COMPUTADORA is a confident, but reserved E.P. of electroclash wizardry, previously released by Independiente in 2000 and which became a classic in the electro scene in Buenos Aires. TAMMY conjures up a new signature sound, by injecting musicality and pop sensibility into the aloof minimalist genre. Immersed in a childish but taciturn universe, TAMMY compels listeners to surrender without escape to his subliminal and hypnotic melodies. In AMOR DE COMPUTADORA, TAMMY has birthed an album of childish wisdom. Charmingly nostalgic and youthful, the E.P. flirts with deeper philosophy through splintered rhythms and darker beats. Having worked with DJ Hell (Gigolo) among others, Tammy's is now working with fellow argentinian 'Gurtz'.

ATLAS

Atlas By Kinky

Recorded in two completely different locations; an isolated ranch in the jungle and the thriving city of Los Angeles, ‘Atlas’ traces this contrast of environments and exhaustive travelling in every song, to make a worldly wise, rock driven second album. Sonically ‘Atlas’ is a clash of the organic and the digital. Lyrically, it roams from savouring all the moments you can, to acknowledging and appreciating things that most take for granted. Starting at home in Mexico with propulsive single ‘Presidente’, the Kinky journey begins…A truly masterful follow-up to their eponymous debut.

Beautiful Sunset Airport Term. 3 By Various

Argentina's Index aka Leo Portela wrote the stunning deep house track 'Ojeras Violetas', after our Chris asked him to inject some musical elements of tango into his musical style. Expect to hear much more from this guy. Next up: a classic deep house remix by Gigolo records' 'vocoder kid' Capri, of Kinky's single 'Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor'. Relying heavily on the sexy Mexican Spanish murmurings of Kinky lead singer Gil Cerezo, Capri succeeds in pulling a totally Class-A dancefloor electro deep house killer. Pass the tequila. To finish off the compilation, we salute ambient-breaks masters Pea Green Boat (Rory Natkiel and Mits Kayaba) from Leeds with their sublime track Citric. You may now unfasten your seatbelts. We hope you enjoy your flight.

KINKY

KINKY1

Kinky By Kinky

Undeterred by genres, 'Kinky' simply mashes it all together. Morphing Mexican folk songs with pulsing electronic grooves, the group add funky guitars, Vocoder-treated Spanish vocals, street percussion and a war-chest of psychotic sound samples for mayhem-fuelled music. Call it Latino house or Mexicali electro, whatever, 'Kinky' kills. Upending previous electronica equations, 'Kinky' never forgoes a good song for a good mix, finding its unique synthesis in a rare mesh of both principles. This is the future - greet it with a smile.

Beautiful Sunset Airport Term. 2 By Various

Berlin-based Ras aka Robert Galic opens Terminal 2 with 'Soul Buzz' - a sun-drenched track laced with his trademark afro-funk groove that eventually brought Ras to collaborate with the mighty collective known as Jazzanova. Hold tight for this one: a remix of Fussible's 'No-One Over 21' by revolutionary Japanese Drum n Bass producer DJ Matsuoka (Mo Wax, Styling), producing a blistering jazzed up drum n bass abstract masterpiece. Sportscut aka Producer Tetsuto Yoshida from Orange Records in Osaka, Japan, rounds it all off with an upbeat, quirky track curiously called 'Junkpilichy On'. Scatting vocals skip and jump endlessly over big-beat-influenced housey beats and shimmering electronic piano. A vibed-up, crowd-pleasing gem.

Italy's Barrio Jazz Gang kickstart this sublime selection of music with 'Linda Cançao'. On a deep house tip with jazzy undertones, floating flute and beautiful strings. Next up, Argentina's Ciudad Feliz’s track 'Since Last Time' is an infectious slice of four to the floor funk with robotic vocals, percussive beats and the catchiest of 'twisted strings' hooks. Odyssea By Fussible

FUSSIBLE provided six out of the eight mixes of 'Odyssea'. The new mixes include the more downbeat and trippy 'La Rom U Rosa Remix' which still maintains a strong Latin flavour. Next up 'La Ballena' mix is a monster of a dancefloor tune combining four to the flour beats with FUSSIBLE's live percussion and horns - it also features a vocal sample by Gigolo Records' artist (DJ Hell's label) Tampopo which brings us to the next mix by Tampopo himself versus French "Sound designer" and producer MewiMewi under their Giant Swarm guise. Tampopo vs. MewiMewi's version is adventurous, electronic, dark and twisted!
