JOYA

Joya By Funky C
Born at the twilight of the 70s during the Pinochet dictatorship, Funky C began his musical career at 14, when he shared the stage with his father Hugo Moraga, one of the most prolific singer/songwriters in Chile. At 16 he established the band Los Tetas, changing the way funk was portrayed in Latin America . It was a breath of fresh air for Chileans by offering an alternative to the aggressive punk scene of the time which exploded as a direct response to Pinochet’s oppressive regime. It established him as one of the most respected Latin funk performers of his generation, with radio hits from Chile to Mexico.
Led by Sonic360 (The label that brought you Kinky) , 2007 is slated to become the year where Funky C brings his funk to the US with “Joya,” an album that fuses old school funk with today’s technology and sounds. The album features a handful of elite guest musicians from Dante Spinetta and Hugo Moraga to Juan Sativo (Tiro de Gracia) and Julio Briceño from Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles. A timeless jewel, filled with Latin funk/dance, soul and hip-hop.

ATLAS

Atlas By Kinky
Recorded in two completely different locations; an isolated ranch in the jungle and the thriving city of Los Angeles, ‘Atlas’ traces this contrast of environments and exhaustive travelling in every song, to make a worldly wise, rock driven second album. Sonically ‘Atlas’ is a clash of the organic and the digital. Lyrically, it roams from savouring all the moments you can, to acknowledging and appreciating things that most take for granted. Starting at home in Mexico with propulsive single ‘Presidente’, the Kinky journey begins…A truly masterful follow-up to their eponymous debut.

KINKY
By Kinky OCT/21/2002
KINKY1
|
Kinky By Kinky
Undeterred by genres, 'Kinky' simply mashes it all together. Morphing Mexican folk songs with pulsing electronic grooves, the group add funky guitars, Vocoder-treated Spanish vocals, street percussion and a war-chest of psychotic sound samples for mayhem-fuelled music. Call it Latino house or Mexicali electro, whatever, 'Kinky' kills. Upending previous electronica equations, 'Kinky' never forgoes a good song for a good mix, finding its unique synthesis in a rare mesh of both principles. This is the future - greet it with a smile.
